Industrial Batteries

INTRODUCTION

Berdasarkan jenisnya Battery digolongkan menjadi 2 macam yaitu :

  1. VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) / SLA (Sealed Lead Acid) atau di Indonesia lebih dikenal dengan istilah Aki/Battery Kering adalah battery tertutup (sealed). Karena sifatnya tertutup maka uap yang keluar dari battery sangat sedikit (terjadi rekombinasi) sehingga tidak perlu menambah cairan/electrolyte selama masa pemakaian battery tersebut. Istilah valve (katup) mengacu pada katup yang ada di VRLA Battery sebagai sarana keluarnya uap untuk mencegah tekanan dalam battery terlalu besar yang dapat menyebabkan battery menggelembung.
  2. VLA (Vented Lead Acid) atau di Indonesia lebih dikenal dengan istilah Aki/Battery Basah adalah battery yang mengandung cairan/electrolyte dan memerlukan pengisian electrolyte selama masa pemakaian battery tersebut.

 

Penggolongan VRLA Battery berdasarkan teknologinya dibagi menjadi :

  1. Teknologi AGM (Absorptive Glass Mate) : Cairan/electrolyte terserap oleh separator yang berupa lembaran serat kaca (fiber glass).
  2. Teknologi Gel : Cairan/electrolyte lebih solid dalam bentuk gel dan lebih bersifat kaku (fixed).

Keterangan :

  • Pada DOD 20% Battery dengan Gel Technology mempunyai Cycle Life 2000 Cycles.
  • Pada DOD 20% Battery dengan AGM Technology mempunyai Cycle Life 1200 Cycles.

 

Penggolongan VRLA Battery berdasarkan penggunaannya dibagi menjadi 2 yaitu :

Standby Use : Berfungsi untuk penggunaan standby. Battery bekerja mengeluarkan arus pada waktu listrik tidak menyala. Contoh : untuk backup computer, UPS System, lampu emergency, dll.

Cyclic Use : Battery bekerja mengeluarkan arus terus menerus, kemudian di charge lagi, dipakai lagi (discharge), dst. Satu kali charge � discharge disebut satu siklus. Contoh : Battery Handphone, battery forklift, battery mainan anak-anak, dll.

VARIABEL YANG PERLU DIKETAHUI PADA BATTERY

Ada 2 (dua) variable penting, yaitu : Voltage dan Kapasitas

Yang dimaksud dengan Voltage (tegangan) adalah perbedaan tegangan antara kutub positif dan kutub negatif. Perbedaan tegangan ini yang menyebabkan arus dapat mengalir.

Yang dimaksud dengan Kapasitas adalah Isi battery. Pengertian ini mempunyai dua unsur yang sangat penting dan saling berkaitan satu sama lainnya, yaitu : Waktu dan Kuat Arus. Kapasitas mempunyai satuan AH (Ampere Hour). Ampere merupakan satuan kuat arus dan hour merupakan satuan waktu.
Kapasitas Battery yang diukur dalam waktu berbeda hasilnya pasti berbeda. Kapasitas akan menjadi lebih besar jika pengukuran dilakukan dalam waktu yang lama. Besaran kapasitas tidak linier terhadap waktu

Untuk membandingkan kapasitas battery suatu merk tertentu dengan merk lainnya, agar perbandingannya setara, pengukuran kapasitas dan tegangan end voltagenya harus sama.

Contoh:
Kapasitas battery ‘A’ sebesar 100 AH pada C20 end voltage 1.6 VPC. Kapasitas battery ‘B’ sebesar 93 AH pada C10 end voltage 1.75 VPC. Dari data kapasitas tersebut, tidak dapat disimpulkan secara langsung bahwa kapasitas battery ‘A’ lebih besar daripada kapasitas battery ‘B’. Artinya jika kedua battery tersebut dibebani dengan beban yang sama dan dalam waktu yang sama, ada kemungkinan justru battery ‘B’ yang akan memberikan back-up lebih lama atau berarti kapasitas battery ‘B’ lebih besar dari battery ‘A’. Untuk lebih memastikan kapasitas mana yang lebih besar, dapat dilihat pada table kapasitas battery ‘A’ untuk pengukuran 10 jam (C10) dengan end voltage 1.75 VPC. Jika angkanya lebih kecil dari 93, berarti kapasitas battery ‘B’ lebih besar dari pada kapasitas battery ‘A’.

Motive Power Battery adalah battery yang digunakan untuk Material Handling Equipment, termasuk Forklift yang menggunakan battery sebagai sumber tenaga.
